General information, not medical advice. In an emergency call 911. For advice about your own health, speak to a doctor or licensed professional, and confirm hours, prices and coverage with the provider or your insurer.

Health City Cayman Islands is a private hospital group in Grand Cayman that describes itself as an advanced tertiary care medical centre. Its main hospital is in East End and its second hospital is at Camana Bay. It opened in 2014, is a member of the Narayana Health network, and treats Cayman residents alongside patients who travel from overseas for cardiac, orthopaedic, cancer, neuroscience, gastro and kidney care.

This guide explains who runs it, where each site is, what it treats, its accreditation, how medical tourism works for international patients, what is and is not confirmed about local insurance, and what to ask before you book.

What is Health City Cayman Islands?

Health City Cayman Islands (often shortened to HCCI) calls itself an advanced tertiary care medical centre and hospital. Its official website lists the main hospital as the East End Hospital and says it draws patients from around the world, which is why it comes up so often in conversations about medical tourism in the Cayman Islands.

Since opening, it has grown from a single hospital into a small network of sites, adding clinics, cancer services and maternity care along the way. You can read the hospital's own history and timeline on the Health City About Us page.

Who owns Health City Cayman Islands?

According to a 2017 Ascension news release, Ascension partnered with Narayana Health and the Cayman government in 2012 to set up Health City, which it described at the time as a 104-bed tertiary care hospital. In November 2017, Ascension announced that the partnership would move to full ownership by Narayana Health.

Today, Health City's own website simply says it is a member of the Narayana Health network. The exact current legal ownership, and whether the Cayman government still has a role, were not confirmed for this guide. In 2024, the Cayman Compass reported that Health City at Camana Bay was part of more than $300 million that Narayana Health has invested in the Cayman Islands.

Where is Health City in Grand Cayman?

Health City's website lists four locations: East End Hospital, Camana Bay Hospital, Camana Bay Clinic and the Gene Thompson Radiotherapy Centre. Its timeline also records a Cayman Brac Clinic opening in 2021, so if you live on the Brac, ask Health City what is currently offered there.

Health City Cayman East End

The East End Hospital is Health City's main hospital. Health City's own Contact Us page gives its address as 1283 Sea View Road, near High Rock in the East End district of Grand Cayman. Confirm which site you are booked at before you set off.

If you are thinking about living closer to the hospital, our guide to property near Health City Cayman Islands and why East End is booming looks at the district in more detail.

Health City Camana Bay

The Camana Bay Hospital is at 25 Cerasee Way, off Esterley Tibbetts Highway. Health City's timeline links Camana Bay with its chemotherapy unit (2022), its radiation oncology centre (2023) and maternity care, with the first babies delivered there in 2025. The Cayman Compass reported that the facility would include specialised care for premature babies.

How do I get to Health City from George Town?

Health City says the East End hospital is about a 30-minute drive from Owen Roberts International Airport. It does not give a time from George Town, so check a map or navigation app for the current route and allow plenty of time for your appointment. Before you leave, confirm which site you are booked at, because Health City now has more than one hospital on Grand Cayman.

What procedures does Health City Cayman Islands do?

Health City groups its main services into six Centres of Excellence. It also offers an Executive Health Check, a physiotherapy service and a 'View All Services' page on its website, which is the place to check whether a specific procedure is offered.

Centre of ExcellenceExamples from Health City's own timeline
Cardiac SciencesFirst TAVI in the English-speaking Caribbean (2016); first robotic cardiac surgery in the Caribbean (2026); first FARAPULSE pulsed field ablation for AFib in the English-speaking Caribbean (2026)
GastrosciencesSee Health City's services page for details
NeurosciencesFirst awake craniotomy in the English-speaking Caribbean (2017)
OncologyChemotherapy unit (2022), radiation oncology centre (2023), work with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (from October 2023)
Orthopaedics & Sports MedicineFirst arthroscopic Latarjet surgery in the Caribbean (2018)
Renal SciencesSee Health City's services page for details
These 'firsts' are the hospital's own claims. They are not independent rankings or outcome data.

Can you get heart surgery in the Cayman Islands?

Yes. Cardiac Sciences is one of Health City's six Centres of Excellence, and its timeline lists TAVI from 2016, robotic cardiac surgery from 2026 and pulsed field ablation for atrial fibrillation (AFib) from 2026. Whether a particular procedure is right for you is a decision for you and your cardiologist, so bring your records and questions to that conversation.

Orthopaedic surgery in Grand Cayman

Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is another Centre of Excellence. Health City's timeline notes the first arthroscopic Latarjet surgery in the Caribbean in 2018. It also has a separate physiotherapy service, which is worth asking about if your surgeon expects you to need rehabilitation afterwards.

Cancer care

Health City's cancer services include a chemotherapy unit at Camana Bay and the Gene Thompson Radiotherapy Centre, its radiation oncology centre in Camana Bay, which opened in 2023. Health City says it began working with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in October 2023 to strengthen cancer care.

Is Health City Cayman Islands accredited?

Health City says it holds Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. Its timeline records the JCI Gold Seal of Approval in 2015 and JCI Enterprise Accreditation in 2023. Health City says it was the first hospital in the Caribbean, and one of only six organisations worldwide, to receive JCI Enterprise Accreditation, and South Florida Caribbean News reported the award at the time.

This guide relies on Health City's own statement and that press coverage. If accreditation matters to your decision, you can confirm current status directly with Joint Commission International, the body that grants it.

Does Health City publish quality figures?

Yes. Health City publishes its own key performance indicators for January to December 2025, including its 30-day readmission rate, surgical site infection rate and hospital-acquired infection rate, each shown against a benchmark. These figures are self-reported. They are a useful starting point for questions, but they are not an independent comparison between hospitals.

How does medical tourism in the Cayman Islands work at Health City?

How do international patients book treatment at Health City?

Health City's website has an International Patients page, an online Pre-registration Form and a Patient Resources page under Patients & Visitors. Based on what the site offers, the practical steps look like this:

Details of travel help, airport transfers and recovery accommodation were not confirmed for this guide. Ask the International Patients team what they arrange and what you need to organise yourself.

Planning your travel and recovery stay

Before you book flights, it helps to get clear answers from the hospital on a few practical points:

Patients from the Bahamas

Health City's timeline says it set up a partnership with Doctors Hospital Bahamas in 2024 and bought shares in Doctors Hospital Health System Limited in 2025. The Cayman Compass reported that Health City bought $4 million in shares in the Bahamas hospital and said the deal would probably mean more patients from the Bahamas being referred to Health City in Cayman.

How do Cayman residents use Health City?

Health City is not only for medical tourists. Since 2021 it has added a clinic at Camana Bay and on Cayman Brac, a chemotherapy unit, a radiation oncology centre and, from 2024, a second hospital at Camana Bay where babies have been delivered since 2025. Residents can book through the same patient portal or by calling +1 345 640 4040.

Does Health City accept local Cayman insurance?

This was not confirmed for this guide. Which local plans Health City accepts, including CINICO and private insurers, could not be verified from official sources.

There has been movement on the public side. In 2026 the Cayman Independent reported a pilot programme to test whether CINICO could expand into private healthcare, with the aim of collecting enough data. In October 2026, Cayman News Service ran a story headlined CINICO clients to access private healthcare. Neither piece confirmed Health City by name in the material reviewed.

Before you book, take these steps:

Does US or overseas insurance cover Health City?

This was not verified. If you plan to use insurance from the US or another country, ask your insurer in writing whether treatment in the Cayman Islands is covered, what pre-approval is needed and how claims are paid, then confirm with Health City.

Is medical tourism in Cayman cheaper than the US?

No official prices have been published by Health City, so a fair comparison is not possible here. Ask the hospital for a written estimate that sets out exactly what is and is not included, then compare it with what your insurer or home hospital quotes.

What should I ask before booking at Health City?

A short list of questions can save a lot of stress later. Have these ready when you call or message the hospital.
