The main hospital in Grand Cayman is the Anthony S. Eden Hospital at 95 Hospital Road, George Town. You may also hear it called George Town Hospital or the Cayman Islands Hospital. It is run by the public Health Services Authority (HSA) and its Accident & Emergency unit is open 24 hours. For problems that are not emergencies, there is a walk-in Urgent Care clinic at the same hospital, plus private options including 24/7 urgent care at Doctors Hospital. In a medical emergency, call 911.
This guide maps out where to go for care across the Cayman Islands: public and private hospitals, walk-in and after-hours clinics, GP appointments, pharmacies with late or Sunday hours, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, and how insurance and payment work. Opening hours change, so check current hours with the provider before you set off.
Is it an emergency? Where to go for what
What number do I call for an ambulance in the Cayman Islands?
Dial 911 for an ambulance or emergency medical services. It is the number listed for police, fire and ambulance by Hazard Management Cayman Islands, and Doctors Hospital's own site says: 'If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911.' In 2022 the Ministry of Health said HSA's Emergency Medical Services ambulances were the only ones licensed to respond to 911 medical calls.
If you think it could be an emergency, call 911 rather than driving yourself to a clinic.
Where is the main hospital in Grand Cayman?
The Anthony S. Eden Hospital is at 95 Hospital Road, George Town, and the main number is (345) 949-8600. HSA renamed it in April 2025, but you will still see George Town Hospital and Cayman Islands Hospital on signs, maps and older websites, so it helps to know all three names.
HSA describes itself as the only authorised provider of emergency medical services in the Cayman Islands. Its Accident & Emergency unit is open 24 hours, with trained physicians and registered nurses always on duty and other specialists on call after normal working hours.
The A&E unit has nine observation beds, three of them equipped for intensive cardiac care for people with chest pain. It also has a paediatric room, a trauma room, an infectious-cases room, a minor procedures room and a quiet room. The same building houses the HSA Urgent Care walk-in clinic (in the atrium by the main entrance) and a hospital pharmacy.
Which hospitals are in Grand Cayman and what are they for?
Grand Cayman has one public hospital run by HSA, plus private hospitals run by Doctors Hospital and Health City Cayman Islands. The sister islands are served by HSA facilities.
Doctors Hospital Cayman
Doctors Hospital is a private hospital in George Town. Its Urgent Care unit is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including public holidays, and you do not need an appointment. Outpatient and wellness appointments run 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and the booking number is +1 (345) 325-9000. A 2025 Cayman Compass listing describes it as having 16 beds, Joint Commission International accreditation and two private maternity suites.
Its urgent care page lists emergency care as 'coming soon', and its patient information page tells anyone having a medical emergency to call 911.
Health City Cayman Islands
Health City runs two hospitals on Grand Cayman, both listed as open 24/7 and both reachable on +1 345-640-4040. The East End Hospital at High Rock is, according to Health City, a 105-bed tertiary hospital with accident and emergency services, surgery, radiology, physiotherapy, a pharmacy and laboratory services, and it says it accepts walk-in admissions for emergencies. The Camana Bay Hospital is at 25 Cerasee Way, and there is also a Camana Bay Clinic at 9 Forum Lane. Full details are on the Health City locations page.
A note on emergency care at private hospitals
Sources disagree here. In 2022 the Ministry of Health said HSA was the only facility authorised by the Health Practice Commission to provide emergency services, and Health City replied that emergency services were on its list of approved services. HSA's A&E page still describes HSA as the only authorised emergency provider. The practical takeaway: think of the private hospitals as urgent care and walk-in options, and call 911 in an emergency.

Where can I see a doctor after hours in Grand Cayman?
What is open depends on the time and day:
- Weekday evenings until 8pm: HSA Urgent Care and Total Health.
- Late at night and overnight: Doctors Hospital urgent care runs 24/7. Health City's two hospitals are listed as open 24/7, so call +1 345-640-4040 to check what is available before you go.
- Saturdays: HSA Urgent Care from 11am to 8pm, Total Health 8am to 8pm and the Savannah clinic 9am to 2pm.

- Public holidays: on the 2026 holidays, HSA posted holiday hours of A&E 24 hours and Urgent Care 11am to 8pm, with district health centres and outpatient clinics closed.
- Emergencies at any time: call 911.
Two district health centres have listed a late evening session on older HSA pages: West Bay until 8pm on Wednesdays, and Bodden Town until 8pm on Mondays and Thursdays. Confirm these before relying on them.
How do I see a GP in Grand Cayman?
Through the HSA General Practice Clinic
HSA's General Practice Clinic handles routine check-ups and ongoing care of chronic conditions, and you need an appointment. It is on the 2nd floor of the Smith Road Medical Centre, 150 Smith Road, George Town, phone (345) 244-2530. If you need a prescription refill from HSA, go here rather than to Urgent Care.
At a district health centre
HSA's district health centres offer general family medicine and nursing services closer to home.
With a private family doctor
Private options include the Savannah family and walk-in clinic and outpatient appointments at Doctors Hospital (weekdays 8am to 5pm). If you are new to the island and choosing between public and private care, our guide to Cayman Islands healthcare and insurance for expats explains how the system fits together.
Which pharmacies are open late or on Sundays in Grand Cayman?
- Of the pharmacies above, West Bay Pharmacy is the one whose own website lists Sunday opening (11am to 6pm) and the latest weekday close (8pm). Its site may date from around 2022, so call to confirm.
- We could not confirm regular weekday or Sunday hours for the two HSA pharmacies, only their 2026 public holiday hours.
- Other pharmacies operate on Grand Cayman too. Check their own websites for current opening times.
What hospital is on Cayman Brac?
Faith Hospital in Stake Bay (215 Dennis Foster Road, (345) 948-2243) is an 18-bed HSA community hospital. It provides primary, secondary and emergency care for residents of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, with emergency services available 24/7 through its A&E department and an on-site pharmacy.
- Normal clinic: Monday to Friday 9am to 3pm
- Walk-in clinics: Monday 9am to 1pm, and Wednesday to Friday 9am to 3pm
- Refill clinics: Monday and Thursday 9am to 3pm

- Pharmacy: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 8pm, Saturday 10am to 1pm, Sundays and public holidays 3pm to 4pm
The US State Department notes that emergency and medical care on Cayman Brac and Little Cayman is limited, which is worth bearing in mind if you are planning a long stay or a move there.
Is there a doctor on Little Cayman?
Little Cayman Health Centre on Spot Bay Road ((345) 948-0072) is open Monday to Friday 8am to 2pm, with a doctors' clinic on Wednesdays 8am to 2pm. It is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays except for emergencies. The on-call number is (345) 916-5395, and resident nurses make home visits. These hours took effect on 19 February 2026.
Do I need insurance to be seen at the hospital in Cayman?
By law, every resident of the Cayman Islands must have at least basic health insurance (the Standard Health Insurance Contract), according to the government's Health Insurance Commission. Visitors should check what their own travel or health insurance covers here.
HSA's patient rights page says patients have the right to be treated without discrimination, including on the basis of ability to pay, and to ask for an estimate of hospital charges before care.
How paying works at HSA:
- You pay a Registration Officer during your visit to any HSA facility.
- HSA accepts cash, cheques and major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), as set out on its Pay a Bill page.
- Hospital charges not covered by your deposit and verified insurance must be paid at discharge, unless you have made other arrangements.
- Patient Financial Services can help with billing and insurance questions on weekdays 8:30am to 5pm at (345) 244-7506.
Can tourists use the hospital?
The same payment rules apply at HSA facilities. Ask for an estimate of charges before treatment where you can, and check with your own insurer what your policy covers in the Cayman Islands.
What is changing with CINICO?
In October 2026, Cayman News Service reported that CINICO, the government-owned insurer, is running a pilot to let its coverage be accepted at private medical facilities without an HSA referral. Eligibility details had not been published on CINICO's own site at the time of writing.
What should I bring to a clinic or hospital visit?
We could not verify HSA's official registration checklist, so ask the provider what ID and documents they need when you call. Based on how payment works, it makes sense to have:
- your health insurance card or policy details, as HSA verifies insurance
- a way to pay, such as a card or cash, since HSA collects payment during your visit
- a list of any medicines you take, to share with the doctor or pharmacist
